Making Disciples of Jesus Christ While discipleship can never be limited to one approach… it is helpful for there to be a clear and intentional process of discipleship for an individual to follow. Kent Island United Methodist Church has identified a process for our church that we believe will help each person grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Below is a brief introduction to Following Jesus… our clear and intentional process First Element Second Element Third Element Sign Me Up First Element top of page First Element, it's Relational. The initial element provides an encouraging, accountable relationship. As the new disciple, you will be connected with a mentor who will journey with you through the entire discipleship process. You and your mentor will connect weekly… preferably in a brief face to face meeting. If not possible, you’ll connect electronically or by phone. Your mentor will be there to encourage and support you. The purpose of this first element is for you to discover what it means to live as a disciple and develop an account-able relationship with your mentor. Second Element top of page Second Element, it's foundational. The next element develops a strong foundation on which you will build a life of discipleship. Using the resource, Following Jesus: Steps to a Passionate Faith, you will gain a basic knowledge of Christian beliefs and the United Methodist Church. The classes will be held during Sunday School and at Connections on Wednesday evenings. Childcare is provided during these times. The development of foundational knowledge is the purpose of this second element. Third Element top of page Third Element, it's a Way of Life. The final element is a life-long quest to grow and mature as a disciple of Jesus Christ. At the series of classes in the second element, you will meet with a volunteer coordinator who will assist you in two ways. First, the volunteer coordinator will help you find a place to Grow Deep as a disciple. It is expected that a disciple at Kent Island United Methodist Church will attend a Sunday School Class, Bible Study or Small Group. The volunteer coordinator will also help you identify a way to Grow Out that will utilize your gifts for ministry. Some of the many opportunities for ministry could include singing in the choir, working with children or youth, volunteering at the shelter or serving on a mission trip. SIGN ME UP! top of page So, now that you have an idea as to what we are doing, we hope you are as excited to jump into the program as we are. We have set up an online registration page which you can take advantage of, or you can sign up at church on Wednesday night, Sunday mornings or in the office anytime it is open during the week. If you choose to sign up online using our church database, and it is your first time to do so, please click on the "NEED LOGIN" button and complete the necessary information. Regardless of how you sign up, someone will be in touch with you soon to discuss your decision to Follow Jesus as a disciple here at KIUMC. We look forward to Growing UP, DEEP, and OUT with you.
