Evangelism

The Great Commission – Matthew 28:19,20
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Purpose

We are all called to share our faith. The purpose of the ministry of Evangelism at KIUMC is to help train members to effectively share their faith, provide opportunities to share in practical ways, and to assist those seeking God through welcoming and providing direction.

If you feel called to serve in this ministry - please contact Beau Wilder at wilderbeau@gmail.com.

Sharing Your Faith
Here are a few suggestions to help you share your faith with the world:

1. Make new friends - unlike the old ones.
Matthew 5:44-48 "If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?"

We tend to gravitate toward people with similar interests and social standing as ourselves for understandable reasons…it is easier to share life with someone with whom we can relate. However, Jesus wants you to grow in character, understanding and spirit. That happens best when we willing seek opportunities outside of our comfort zone. Look for someone who needs to know the love of Christ…not someone who needs to know you!

2. Keep the Ratio.
Proverbs 1:5 "let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance"

God gave you two ears and one mouth - keep that ratio when you converse with someone about life. It is hard to listen for the opportunity to share your faith in a practical way when you are doing all the talking. If you are a sincere listener, you will be amazed at how much someone will share about what is going on in their life. When you hear an area that needs prayer, offer it. When you hear of a struggle, share how you got through a struggle in your own life, which leads to the next point…

3. Be ready to testify!
2 Timothy 4:2 "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction."

Take the time now to sit and write down the difference Jesus has made in your life. Reflect on life before Christ, and life with Him. Get to know your own story. Develop a short version - no more than two minutes and put it to memory. When you are listening to someone share their life (remember point 2!) and God reveals your opening - share your story. Then practice patience and return to listening. Let God do His work in your friend's heart.

As true in all aspects of your walk in faith - remember to PRAY! Pray for open doors and opportunities. Pray for words to share. Pray for self-control. Pray for His will to be done. Then rejoice!
