Welcome to KIUMC!

We would love to have you visit Kent Island United Methodist Church (KIUMC) this weekend. Not sure what to expect? We realize that visiting a new church can be a little intimidating, so we've answered some questions that you might have.

How do I get to KIUMC?
KIUMC is located just South of Route 50 on Cox Neck Road, in the middle of beautiful Kent Island. Click here for a larger map and directions.

Will I have to stand up in front of people?
Some churches call on their visitors to stand up during the service and introduce themselves. While the people at KIUMC are genuinely interested in getting to know you and make you feel welcome, we will never call on you or embarrass you in any way. You can relax and enjoy meeting people at your own pace.

Do I have to dress up?
No, you don't. We encourage people to dress comfortably. For some, that may mean dressing up, but for most it simply means wearing casual clothes. The New Testament simply instructs us to dress modestly and decently, so we do not burden people unnecessarily by requiring them to dress up in fancy clothes they do not normally wear just to "go to church." We want everyone to come, be comfortable, and enjoy learning about God together.

What time do your services start?
We have three services every Sunday at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m., and we meet at various times throughout the week for Bible studies, prayer and other fellowship opportunities. To see a list of our gathering times, click here.

Where will my children go during the service?
Your children will love Kent Island United Methodist Church! We provide fun, hands-on Bible lessons and activities, through a special Children's Worship Service and Sunday School every Sunday morning, designed especially to help them learn the truths of the Bible. We also provide a safe, cozy nursery for infants through pre-school. Our children's ministry leaders are parents just like you who value every child and treat them with the utmost care and attention.

What's the preaching like?
At Kent Island United Methodist Church, it is our sincere desire to share God's Word in all its truth without watering anything down, but to do it in love, and in ways that are interesting, engaging and relevant to your daily life. While the Bible certainly does convict us of our sin in order to point out our lost condition, the overarching theme of the entire Bible is God's unconditional love for all humankind, as is shown by God sending His precious Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sin. If you attend one of our services, you will hear the truths of God's Word presented passionately, clearly, and lovingly in ways that will make sense to you. But why not find out for yourself?

What kind of music do you have?
This is a common question. A huge debate has arisen in churches over whether traditional music or contemporary music is "right." We believe that God has inspired people throughout the ages to write hymns and songs of praise and that He continues to inspire musicians from all generations to write music that praises Him and brings glory to His name. We believe that debates regarding styles of music are more a matter of personal preference than anything else. In appreciation of that, we want to give worshippers an option to choose the style of worship they prefer.

Our Traditional and Communion worship services praises God with great church hymns of both past and present. Offerings of praise and thanksgiving are expressed through timeless music led by our choir and organist at the traditional service and our choir and orchestra at the communion service. Worship services are enhanced with very talented soloists, singing groups and hand bell performances.

Our Crossroads contemporary worship service uses a blend of music styles to glorify God. We have not abandoned the familiar hymns for newer music. Instead, you will hear a great mix of new and old music - plenty of songs you know and love; popular contemporary Christian music and some traditional music. The setting is more casual. The service is led by our Worship Band, Ransomed, at our Crossroads Service.

The focus of all of our worship services is to bring glory to God and to support and encourage every worshipper in their journey of faith.

What denomination is KIUMC?
KIUMC is a member of the United Methodist Church. The Bible is the primary sourcebook of our faith. We seek to make the Bible relevant to the issues of today. We are committed to sharing God's Good News through our ministry and facilities. Click here to learn more about what it means to be a Christian in our world and at KIUMC.
