2021 Church-Wide Bible Study
Has 2020 gotten you down? Don’t know where to find hope? Have the normal places you look for hope (finances, relationships, health, etc.) left you feeling hopeless? If you’re tired of being let down by things never meant to satisfy, then join us for a twelve-week church-wide bible study on Max Lucado’s “Unshakable Hope” and discover how God is our only true source of hope! Our Sunday sermons will be focused on this study as well.

Choose a virtual study led by Kevin and Dawn Kintop via Zoom on Mondays at 7PM starting January 25th or an in-person study led by Patrick Murphy at the church on Thursday mornings at 10AM starting January 28th (please make note of new start dates as our book shipment keeps getting delayed). Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, in-person studies are limited to a maximum of 12 participants. Please use the links below to sign up. Please contact Mike and Shannon Turner with any questions, 410-227-5542 or email grannishani@gmail.com.

There will be a limited number of books available, once they arrive, after services on Sundays and from the office during the week.

In Jeremiah 29: 11-12 God said, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”

If you are interested in holding a bible study in the KIUMC building, please email your request to Dana at dana@kiumc.org.

Staying Connected with God through Bible Studies
The Bible tells us who we are and what we should do, but it does so through the lens of who God is. The knowledge of God and the knowledge of self always go hand in hand. So let us connect with God through His Word.

Why Is It Important?
When we make a decision to do anything in life, we really commit when we know our why. So prayerfully consider, “Why do I want to study Scripture?” Do I want to study God’s Word… So that I can check it off my spiritual “to do” list? Because I believe that it is what “good” Christians do? In order to be seen a certain way by others? So that I will have the answers and people will be impressed with my biblical knowledge? Because I believe that if I do, life will turn out the way I want it to? Or God will give me a formula and guarantee that my children will follow Him? So I won’t feel guilty? Or do I want to study the Bible… To know God and His character? To glorify Him? To understand how He wants me to live? To be equipped to walk in a manner worthy of Christ? To reveal sin in my life so I can confess and repent of it? To teach me so I mature and reflect His character to others?

Let’s be honest with both God and ourselves. If you find your motives are from the first list, then confess it to God. Repentance means to change one’s mind. Come humbly to His Word and let it transform your thoughts and motives. Ask Him to help you fall in love with Him and His Word. We are all susceptible to this! Pray during each encounter with His Word. Then study it. Even when our motives may be selfish, guess what? The answer is the same: study His Word. The Holy Spirit works through the Word to guide, teach, and convict us of sin. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:12-13).

As God transforms us and the thoughts and motives of our hearts, we will fall more in love with Him—our gracious and good and loving God.
